My daughter, Helena, is 12 years old, and we have been doing ABR since March 2005. Helena has had a profound brain injury since birth, which left her blind, deaf, insensate and completely immobile. We began working with her on an intensive neurological programme from the age of 15 months, and we had fantastic success. Helena now has perfect vision, hearing, and sensation, and has had huge intellectual and physiological development. However she deteriorated physically, and by early 2005 it was obvious that her structure had collapsed to the point where independant mobility would be impossible without major improvement to her structure.
It was at this time that ABR was recommended to us by a friend - who had previously been doing the same neurological programme as us. I was amazed with their child's success in such a short time, and took Helena for her first evaluation. I was immensly impressed with the simplicity of the programme, and the effectiveness of the technique. Since beginning ABR I have seen many wonderful changes in Helena, from the growth of her nasal cavity allowing her to breathe properly, to the complete restructuring of her shoulder girdle, the elongation of her torso, and the extra volume in her chest. Her spine in very much straighter, and her face lifted and re-sculptured, with her neck and jawline straightened, and lengthened. After a year and a half of ABR, and for the first time in her life, she is beginning to be able to move her arms. I see changes every week in Helena's structure, and although I know we have a long way to go, I know ABR provides the tools necessary for her eventual mobility, in a way that nothing else can. Importantly, I have seen how much happier Helena is, she chats and laughs, has a much greater range of sounds which she uses faster and more appropriately, and she is so much more relaxed. I strongly recommend ABR to any parent of a brain injured child.

My daughter, Courtney is 8 years old and we have been doing ABR for just over one year. Courtney was born with a severe brain injury and from 16 months to 6 years old, we worked with her on a very intensive therapy program. She did very well on this program and went from being totally flaccid and unable to move or lift her head up, to being able to crawl, creep, knee walk and then even started walking - although poorly. She went from being nearly blind and cross-eyed to being able to read above the level of her peers. Despite these great improvements other areas lagged - like her left arm and hand which could only manage a very poor attempt at a grab and her speech had not developed beyond the occasional, almost inaudible few words and she still had some hearing problems. Even her right side was behind normal development. Still we were grateful of the progress - but then, after all this hard work something horrible started to happened - the more Courtney walked the more her left foot and leg were becoming rigid and twisted, it was like a cruel joke - the spasticity in her left side was robbing us of the improvements we had made- it became obvious that she could not continue in this manner. I realised I needed to find a new approach - something that would address the spasticity and handle the structural deformity that it was creating. Fortunately, I soon found ABR. My first meeting with Leonid, and his evaluation of Courtney was a total eye opener - he was able to point out not only the major obvious structural deformities - like her twisted foot but also, starting at her head and working his way down her body, he pointed out what seemed like hundreds of minor structural deformities that all added up to her just not being able to perform normal functions. Once pointed out and explained - they became totally obvious and took all the mystery out of what was going on. I finally had someone who was able to explain to me what flaccidity and spasticity were and what was happening with my child's body. Next I was to learn the ABR tehnique. Initially it seemed hard, then as I practiced it became simple and then as I got better and learnt more, I realised the degree of theory and understanding behind the relatively simple moves was quite amazing. Within the first 100 hours of applying ABR we saw good changes in Courtney's structure - it was very encouraging. Now after one year and delivering more than 1000 hours we are on our journey of righting all of those 100's of structural deformities that have stopped Courtney from progressing. The progress is a slow but steady improvement - that you can change your child's body with only your hands, some towels and your time is almost unbelievable. The functional improvements are starting to appear as the structure becomes more and more normal. There are many examples that I could share but here are a few in some detail : Leonid showed me that your ear should sit on the face right where the top and bottom jaw meet. If you put your finger at the front of your ear and open and close your jaw you can feel it. Courtney's ears were a good 3/4 inch in front of that - sitting on her cheek ! After only one year of ABR her ears are nearly in the correct position with less than 1/8 inch to go. So far we have had some good improvement in her listening and ability to follow instruction which I assume is due to improved hearing. Another interesting one was; she could not lift her left arm above her head. Leonid showed me how her whole shoulder blade rotated around to the side of her body when she tried to raise her arm, further a tight band of muscles under her arm stopped her from raising the arm, the joint of her shoulder and arm was not sitting in the armpit in fact it was almost 2 inches out of alignment. Now the shoulder blade is much more stable and it does not rotate around to the side, the tight band of muscle has disappeared and the joint is almost in alignment with the pit. As a result she can now lift her left arm up straight above her head. Other quick examples of both structural and functional improvement over this past year are : she previously used to turn the whole upper part of her body to look at something to her right or left, now she can just turn her head. She has grown all over, particularly in depth and is putting on more weight then ever before. She has greater rotational stability at the waist - able to turn the top part of her body without moving her legs and so is more balanced and stable when sitting. She is starting to use her left hand and is constantly touching it whereas before she practically ignored that hand. Her right hand has also improved and is starting to be able to twist on and off bottle tops and use a fork for eating. Her left leg is not as twisted and her left hip and knee are more stable. Her face has broadened, her neck elongated and her larynx is becoming visible and she is now making more sounds, more frequently and at a greater volume. And behavoiur wise she is starting to play with her toys not just hold and bang them and she is also trying to help me with domestic chores like washing up. The progress we have made is very encouraging and I believe ABR can solve all of Courtney's structural problems - I would highly recommend ABR to any family with a brain injured child. I only wish I had found it earlier.
